Abstract
298,635. Couten (nÚe Dominget), M. Oct. 13, 1927, [Convention date]. Sprinklers, automatic. - A sprinkler head comprises a water conduit 1 and a ball 2 carrying a plurality of nozzles 3, the ball and conduit being separated by a light diaphragm 11 normally supported by a valve 4. The diaphragm and valve are connected by an embedded wire 20, preferably of nickel, so that the valve, in falling, tears the diaphragm. The stem 5 of the valve is supported by a thermometer 6 which rests on a fusible block 7 adjustable by means of a screw 10. In use, the bursting of the thermometer 6 or fusing of the block 7 releases the valve 4, allowing the water pressure to break the diaphragm 11. In a modification, Fig. 2, the valve stem 5 is secured to a lever 12 which is pivoted at 13, weighted at 14, and secured by an adjustable link 17 to a thermometer 6 supported by a frame including fusible straps 18. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) described also a construction, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), in which no embedded wire was used to connect the valve and diaphragm, and stated that a part of the device might be arranged, in its movement, to operate an alarm. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
