Abstract

297,009. Dicker, S. G. S., (Chemical Products Co.). June 10, 1927. Ammonium phosphate and sulphate.-Phosphate rock is treated with ammonium bisulphate solution to yield ammonium phosphate solution; containing some ammonium sulphate and phosphoric acid. The precipitated calcium sulphate is mixed with ammonium carbonate solution or with ammonia solution into which carbon dioxide is passed to yield calcium carbonate and ammonium sulphate solution which is converted into ammonium bisulphate either by electrolysis in a divided cell or by separating crystals of ammonium sulphate and heating the crystals to about 300‹ C. The phosphate solution is treated with ammonia to convert the bisulphate into sulphate and the phosphate into triammonium phosphate which is separated by fractional crystallization and is heated to separate ammonia and vields a mixture of mono- and di-ammonium phosphates.
