Milling-machines; drilling-machines.-An electrically driven portable machine for milling, drilling and other cutting operations consists of a. casing 1 having a bottom opening 3 and a side opening 4, opposite to which is a side wall 5 supporting in ball bearings 6 the hub 7 of a tool carrier 8, in which is screwed one end of the shaft 12 of an electric motor 13, the other end of the shaft being journaled in a shield 14, which closes the side opening 4 and is secured to the casing. The motor projects into the carrier, and the shield 14 has thereon a flange 17 acting as a support for the tool carrier; air inlets 18 formed like a fan and inlets 19 also are provided for ventilating the motor and removing cuttings &c. Feet 46, 47 are formed on the casing to enable the apparatus to be used in inverted position, and to the foot 47 is pivoted a handle 48. The carrier 8 may carry cutting or planing tools 10 or may be replaced by a filing wheel &c., and a drill, milling-tool, or a saw may be secured to the internally screwed end of the hub 7. In order to treat curved work, the casing 1 has thereon a resilient plate 20, the ends of which are adjustable by links 26, 30 moved by a nut 31 and a screw 32, the central portion of the plate being adjusted by a bolt 35 engaged by a screwed sleeve 36 mounted in a collar 37 pivoted to the casing. The width of the opening 3 is adjusted by means of slides 39, 40 slidable in curved grooves in the casing. In a modification, plates adjustable along the underside of the casing are provided, no resilient plates being employed.
