Chewing-preparations; coatings for medicines. -Magnesium oxide or hydroxide or an equivalent magnesium compound is incorporated in chewing-gum so as to act as an acid-neutralizing agent in the mouth. The magnesia may be mixed with the gum mass or may be in part mixed with the sugar coating. The gum may be composed of chicle, purified rubber, asphalts, paraffin, or mixtures thereof, and, in addition to the magnesia, sugar, and flavourings may be added. According to an example, a gum composition consists of paloge, chicle, sugar, glucose, magnesium hydroxide, and peppermint flavouring. This mass is formed into pellets which are coated with sugar containing magnesium oxide or hydroxide and a flavouring substance.
