Abstract

293,861. Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Co., (Assignees of Davis, R. L.). July 15, 1927. [Convention date]. Transformers.-In order to reduce magnetic leakage to a minimum in an inter-valve transformer for a wireless system, the windings are made in the form of a coiled double conductor, one element consisting of a wire 12 upon which are threaded insulating beads 13, the other element consisting of a tube 11 surrounding the beads. Fig. 1 shows the transformer used as a coupling between a valve 1 energized from a master oscillator through amplifiers, frequency multipliers, &c., and a power valve 2 feeding an antenna. The primary 11 of the transformer is connected in the anode circuit of the valve 1 and forms in conjunction with a condenser 6 an oscillatory circuit tuned to the input frequency of the valve or a harmonic thereof. The secondary 12 of the transformer is connected to the grid circuit of the valve 2 through a biassing battery 19. Any electrostatic effect that may exist between the windings 11, 12 is augmented by condensers 20, 21 connected between the windings at opposite ends. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the concentric form of winding may be replaced by two conductors in the form of straps secured together by insulation. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
