Abstract
292,826. Junkers, H. July 18, 1927, [Convention date]. Starting ; landing places.-An aeroplane or seaplane is hauled or pushed initially by another vehicle, preferably driven by an airscrew. Fig. 3 shows the manner in which the pull from a hauling vehicle is transmitted to the aeroplane, and Figs. 4 and 6 show arrangements for pushing it. To prevent the haul rope from flying upwards when the aeroplane takes off, it is extended to the rear of the aeroplane and weighted or wound round a brake drum. Alternatively an endless rope is used passing round pulleys forming a triangle. To obtain additional speed for the aeroplane the rope may be fixed as at 43, Fig. 8, and passed round pulleys 44, 42 on the vehicle and ground respectively. The latter pulley may be sunk in the ground. In a further modification the seaplane 1 is towed by a second seaplane 60 which may rise and give support to the seaplane 1 as far as the " ceiling." The hauling ropes may contain shock-absorbers and members adapted to give way under normal stresses.
