292,389. Wuerfel, W. Sept. 6, 1927. Pistons; packing.-One or more split packing- rings 1, 2 are pressed axially by a split waved ring 9. A waved spring 13 is inserted between the packing-rings and the bottom of the packing- ring groove, the crests of the waves being slotted to form separate strips 29, 30 bearing on the rings 1, 2. An intermediate strip 31 may bear on the ring 9 also, and this strip may be divided at 34 to form two tongues. Oil is drained from the packing-ring groove by passages 20, the spring 13 being cut away at 19 to clear the passages.
