Parallel rails and pushers on endless chains; pushers and abutments, means for projecting and retracting. - In conveyers of the kind in which articles 13 are pushed along a channel 6 by pushers 9 mounted on cross-members 8 attached to a pair of parallel endless chains 1, it is arranged that each member 9 shall be moved backwards and downwards as it nears the end sprockets 3 in order that various mechanisms may act on the articles or their wrappers. Each article 13, Fig. 1, comprises a group of ten cigarettes around which a wrapper 14 has been folded to form an openended pouch, and the pushers 9 are retracted &c. in order that folding mechanism may operate on the open end of the pouch, or removing &c. mechanism act on the article. The sprockets 2 are rotated intermittently by Genevastop mechanism. The spindle of the sprockets 3 is mounted in pivoted arms 18 carrying a roller 28 which engages a cam 29 mounted on a pivoted arm 30. Cams 32, 33 act on roller carrying arms 34, 35 to effect the oscillation of the cam 29. An arm 38 integral with the arm 30 carries a toothed segment 39 which gears with a toothed segment 40 carried by an arm 41. An arm 25 integral with the arm 41 carries a roller 22 which bears on the upper surface of one of the chains 1. The arm 25 is fast on a spindle 21 which carries sprockets 20 engaging the lower surface of the chains and an arm and roller similar to the arm &c. 25 for engaging the upper surface of the other chain. As the cams 32, 33 rotate, a pusher 9 is moved from the position shown in Fig. 1 to that in Fig. 2 and back to its original position by the movement of the arms 18, 25. In a modification the sprockets 2 are driven continuously and the rollers 22 are caused to deflect the upper runs of the chains in such manner as temporarily to arrest a pusher.
