Abstract

291,906. Fairey, C. R. March 19, 1927. Screw propellers. - The blades of screw propellers have roots of circular crosssection adapted to fit within boss sockets and be angularly adjustable therein, the blade being secured by a nut with threads of different pitch which engage the root and socket and co-operate to have a differential action. The blades 17, Fig. 1, have roots of circular cross-section, the portion 19 being conical around which is fitted a split collar 20 having a keyway 21 with sliding fit on a key 22 fixed to the portion 19 and also having an external thread 23. The socket 14 has an external thread 16 of the same hand but different pitch from the thread 23, and a nut 24 engages both threads and draws the shank firmly into the socket. The nut may be locked by set screws 25 which are held by a wire 26. In a modification, a nut 34, Fig. 4, has internal and external threads of different pitch which engage threads on the blade shank 29 and socket 31.
