Abstract

291,857. Curtin, L. P. March 7, 1927. Proofing against fungi; proofing-materials.- A process for preserving wood from fungi of the wood-rotting type consists in impregnating it with a solution of barium hydroxide or sodium carbonate, or with an oil emulsion of a basic substance capable of neutralizing weak acids. An emulsion of barium hydroxide solution with crude petroleum, in which the oil is the continuous phase, may be used. The barium hydroxide is converted into barium carbonate within the wood by the action of the carbon dioxide in the air.
