Abstract

291,690. Howard & Bullough, Ltd., and Walsh, J. Dec. 13, 1927. Channels and reservoirs in vertical shaft bearings.-The bore of the upper part k of a spinning spindle bearing sleeve c is increased and is provided with a lubricant container or aperture n. The bearing portion h of the sleeve c is lubricated by capillary action, lubricant passing from the bolster casing, not shown, through a slot e to the spindle. The increased bore at k prevents oil being carried by capillary action to the top of the sleeve c. The top of the sleeve c has a sawcut slot m through which excess oil passes to a groove on the outside of the sleeve.
