291,529. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., and Read, J. C. March 4, 1927. Converting pulsating currents into steady continuous currents.-Smoothing circuits, for the reduction of the amplitude of harmonic or ripple currents in a supply line, comprise an inductance coil L1, Fig. 2, shunted by a condenser C and inductance coil L2 in series, the closed circuit being tuned to the frequency to be rejected. When several frequencies are to be rejected, a number of shunts, each comprising a coil and condenser in series, may be provided. In a modification for rejecting two frequencies, shown in Fig. 4, the condenser C has a pair of coils L4, L5 connected across it, the coil L4 being wound over the line coil L1. Additional coils connected across the condenser C and arranged similarly to the coils L4, L5 may be provided for rejecting further frequencies.
