Abstract

289,689. Brandt, M., and Naujoks, R. Sept. 5, 1927. Heating by electricity. - The apparatus is primarily intended for use in making coffee and has in combination a steam space 4 located above the outlet 24 to the extraction appliance 22, and inlet and outlet valves 20, 25, and a switch 30, actuated by a common operating member 29 and so interconnected that the outlet valve is moved into the closed position only after first closing the water inlet valve and switching off the current. The water container comprises inner and outer shells 1, 2 having flanges 5, 6 secured together by pivoted bolts 7. Heaters 8, 10 are arranged in contact with the shells and connected in series. An outer enclosing casing 12 filled with heat insulation is provided. The valves are interconnected by toothed segments 27, 28 and a cam 34 on the spindle of the valve 20 controls the tipping switch through levers 36, 48. On turning the hand wheel 29 the outlet valve is first opened and then the switch is moved to the closed position. When dripping from the extraction device occurs the wheel is moved further to open the inlet valve. The switch is also controlled by a bimetallic trip 40 soldered to a metallic member 41. The container is also fitted with a safety valve 16 and a steam outlet pipe 18, fitted with a valve 17, serving to tap steam for heating liquids.
