Abstract

288,116. Weigel, D. M. June 27, 1927, [Convention date]. Tread bands. - A non-skid device comprises side chains 12, Fig. 1, and transverse bands 12 formed of rubber with spaced wire insertions arranged end-on to the tread surface and other reinforcing wires embedded lengthwise in the base portion 'of the band. The wires are preferably cabled and the tread wires may be straight or of single, or multiple U-form. Fig. 11 shows in section the preferred arrangement of the built-up rubber band the tread wires being embedded in the layer 34 backed by a layer 33, a layer 32 in which the reinforcing wires are embedded, and a layer 37 the edges of which are folded up the sides of the band before the complete structure is vulcanized. The ends of the strip 32, with liners 36, are folded over the hooks 21 by which the band is attached to the side-chains.
