Abstract
287,321. Cowan, H. March 17, 1927. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Fraud, preventing; testing coins.-In a coinfreed machine the coin inserted through a slot 3, Fig. 2, passes by way of a tipping shoot portion 5 and a shoot 14 to the releasing mechanism. A magnet 2 surrounds the coin slot and the portion 5 is part of a magnet 4 pivoted at 15 and counterbalanced by weights 17 on a screw 16. A magnetizable disc is arrested by the magnets 2, 4 and presses a spring contact 6 against a contact 7 on the side of the shoot, thereby ringing continuously an electric bell 8, Fig. 1, to give warning of an attempted fraud. A heavy non- magnetizable disc tilts the shoot 5 and does not pass to the shoot 14. A light non-magnetizable disc is arrested by a light spring 11 adjustable by a screw 19. The spring 11 is insulated at its sides from the shoot 14 and is inclined in the electrical circuit through a pivoted switch 19'. A genuine coin rings the bell 8 momentarily when passing the contact 6 and is heavy enough to pass the spring 11 without causing its point 12 to contact at 13 with the shoot 14. A heavy non- magnetizable disc which has not tilted the shoot 5 will close the contacts 12, 13 and cause the bell 8 to ring momentarily a second time thus giving a warning. The coin slot 3 is formed in a door to allow discs to be. cleared from the magnets 2, 4. The switch 19<1> and bell 8 are connected to a dry battery access to which is had through a door at the bark of the machine.
