Abstract

287,191. Burndept Wireless, Ltd., and Phillips, C. F. Oct. 18, 1926. Transformers in which the windings operate at considerably differing potentials as in low frequency thermionic valve circuits are provided with a metallic shield connected to the higher potential winding and located so as to prevent electrolytic action on that winding due to leakage current through the insulation. The shield may comprise a winding 4 located between the primary and secondary windings 2, 3 and is connected in the case of the intervalve transformer shown to the high tension positive terminal. The winding 4 may be a continuation of the winding 2, but of heavier gauge wire to withstand electrolytic action. Alternatively, it may comprise a split metal cylinder. The core may also be connected to the shield so as to form a part thereof. In a further arrangement, the winding of higher potential is arranged in sections on split metal or metallized bobbins connected so as to form electrolytic shields.
