Abstract

286,439. Gramophone Co., Ltd., and Buckle, H. L. T. Feb. 18, 1927. Stays.-The hinged lid of a gramaphone cabinet and the like is held in an open position by jointed stay-arms 1, 2 connected to attachment brackets 16, the joint connecting these arms comprising balls 7 which are seated in apertures or depressions in the arm 2 and project through holes in the other arm 1 so as to be engaged by spring arms 9 of a disc 11. The' members 1, 2, 11 and washers 13, 14 are held together by a pivot pin 5. The springs 9 are formed by working a pair of S-shaped cuts in the thin disc 11 of spring steel, this disc being then pinned to the arm 1 at 12 so that these members move together. When a light pressure is applied to close the lid the relative movement of the jointed arms 1, 2 as they fold causes the balls 7 to ride out of the holes in the arm 2 and the springs 9 to be deformed as shown in Fig. 7, the arrangement providing a brake for the closing movement of the lid.
