Abstract

282,033. Moss, H. G. Dec. 9, 1926, [Convention date]. Operating and controlling doors and gates electrically and by treadles; indicating and signalling operations of f doors and gates.-A ground wheel 16 carried by the gate is driven by an electric motor 20 the circuit of which has switches located at each side of the gate for controlling the motor to drive the ground wheel alternately in either direction, according to whether the gate is to be opened or closed. The switches may be arranged in the track for depression by a vehicle, as by using treadle-plates 20, Fig. 11, or they may be manually operable. Depression of a treadle 20 by an approaching vehicle closes the contact members 38, 38, and the completion of the circuit energizes the core 51 and moves the solenoid 50 and levers 49 so that the gate stop 44 falls by gravity and allows the gate to be opened by the motor 20. When the gate is fully-opened, a slotted arm 29 on the gate moves a switch member 28 on the post 15 to actuate a pole-changing switch and open the motor circuit. At the same time a counting- switch is operated whereby, before the gateclosing run of the motor is permitted, the treadle switch on the leaving side of the gate is required to be operated by the end vehicle of a line of vehicles passing through the gate. This counting switch comprises solenoid coils 58, 59 with armatures 56, 57 carrying pawls 55, 55 for engaging reversely-toothed ratchet wheels 52, 52a on a drum 53. This drum carries a projection 60 which normally, when the gates are closed, depresses the switch arm 61 on to the contact 63. Movement of the drum and its projection 60 causes the arm 61 to be engaged with the contact 65 by a spring 64. The circuit is thus completed for raising or lowering the door stops 44 and for actuating through contacts 70 the pole-changing switch of the armature of the motor 20. The electromagnets 58, 59 are shown included in the circuit of a transformer T, the coil 68 controlling the pole-changing switch being included in the same circuit. Warning lamps 80, 81 are arranged in parallel with the motor gate-stop circuit. In the event of a breakdown of the current supply the bell-crank 49 may be operated by a chain 87 operable at the side of the gate-stop casing 46, Fig. 10, this chain being normally locked by a padlock 85.
