Abstract

Electromagnetic switches; switches, actuating. -In order to prevent the opening or closing of electromagnetic switches or contacts by vibration, a pair of cores controlled simultaneously by a solenoid or solenoids are interconnected at their outer ends bv bell-crank levers, one arm of each lever forming a member of a toggle mechanism extending between a pair of switch arms which are thereby moved simultaneously in opposite directions. As shown in the Figure the cores b controlled by a common solenoid a have their outer ends joined to the arms d of bell crank levers which are pivoted at points g to contact-carrying lever h pivoted at i, arms e of the bell crank levers forming toggle members and being interconnected by a pin f. With this arrangement any shock tending to cause engagement or disengagement of one contact lever will produce an opposite effect on the other. From the closed position shown the switches are moved to the " off " position shown in dotted lines on de-energization of the electromagnet a by a spring connected between the pivot pin f and a fixed point or by any other suitable spring arrangement. On energization of the electromagnet attraction of the cores b moves the contact arms into engagement with the fixed terminals m cramping the toggle arms. The solenoid a may be replaced by two separately wound solenoids each controlling one of the cores b.
