Abstract

281,697. Bosworth, H. J. Dec. 1, 1926, [Convention date]. Pivoting adjustments. - A lamp 118 for dentists' and like use is carried by a tube 112 pivoted to a telescopic tube 11, 12 secured to a member 21 pivoted on a pin 23 between friction discs 24 in a casing 28 having a tubular extension 29 mounted rotatably in a sleeve 30 secured upon a tubular support 62, the member 21 being connected by a. rigid metal strap 68 with a sleeve 70 carrying an adjustable nut 73 supporting a counterbalancing spring 75. The upward movement of the tube 12 is limited by a shoulder 40 on the member 21 engaging the back 32 of the casing 28. The discs 24 are held in place by notches 36 engaging arcuate lugs 35 on the inner sides of the casing 28 and are formed with a hub 48. The frictional resistance is adjusted by means of a nut 50 on the pin 23. A key may be placed in registering notches in the tube 112 and the end 108 of the tube 11 to hold the lamp in an inclined position. The members 21, 28, 30 are preferably made of aluminium and the discs 24 and sleeve 82 of brass.
