Vacuum tubes.-An incandescent cathode contains one or more alkaline earth metal compounds such as oxides, and one or more alkaline earth metals in metallic form. The compound and metal may be mixed in powdered form and applied to a core of platinum or tungsten or the metal may be applied electrolytically to the core so as to form a carrier for the compound. The alkaline earth metal improves the, electron emission and absorbs gas.
