Abstract
278,396. Ljungstr÷m, B., and Ljungstr÷m, B. A. April 12, 1926. Regenerators in which air is heated by smoke gases from furnaces are heated to a dry heat before allowing the smoke gases to pass through, in order to prevent the condensation of corrosive matters from the smoke gases on to the elements of the heater. Hot air, saturated or superheated steam may be passed through the passage of the heater; alternatively air, steam or water-heated or electricallyheated devices may be placed in the passages or in the, walls. When hot air is employed it may be heated by a separate or integral auxiliary air heater. Fig. 1 shows the air-heater 6 connected by pipes 9, 10 with piping 7 placed in the furnace flue 8. A fan 11 circulates the hot air through the passages of the heater until a suitable temperature has been reached, when the fan is stopped, valves 12, 13 closed and the smoke gases allowed to pass through the air-heater 6. Fig. 4 shows an air-heater 15 preliminarily heated by internal hollow devices 16 provided with inlets and outlets 17, 18 for hot air, steam or hot water. The devices 16 may be replaced by electric resistance elements.
