Abstract

276,990. Couture, A. Sept. 1, 1926, [Convention date]. Pigeons, catching. - A pigeonhouse is provided with a compartment for automatically imprisoning a returning pigeon, the closing of the entrance behind the pigeon being controlled by a dash-pot device. The pigeon alights on a board 1 and passes through the entrance to the trapping compartment, stepping on a pivoted member 5 that closes the circuit of an alarm as it does so. Arms 4 are pivoted at the sides of the entrance and are adapted to be moved towards each other to close the entrance by the downward movement of a sliding cross-piece 8. The cross-piece is connected at the middle to a tube 6 sliding in a cylinder 7 half-filled with oil. Holes are provided in the sides of the tube 6 near the bottom. The oil leaks through these holes during the downward movement of the cross-piece. A quick hard return movement is provided by forming holes in the bottom of the tube 6, such holes during the downward movement being closed by a disc 10 that is adapted to be lifted a short distance at the beginning of the hard return movement. A rod locks the cross-piece in the raised position when the entrance is open, such rod being adapted to be tripped on the entrance of a pigeon. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that the trapping compartments are provided with hand-actuated exit doors 43, Fig. 4 (Cancelled), pivoted on a rod 41 and secured by clips. A very flexible coil spring 46 extends across the open middle portion of the lower half of these doors. A pigeon desirous of passing through into the house can push this spring aside. Should it be desired to hold the pigeon in the trapping compartment a rigid needle 47 is inserted in the coil 46. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
