Loud-speakers; magnetic instruments; diaphragms.-In an electromagnetic sound reproducer having a moving coil carried by the diaphragm, the diaphragm is conical and has a free edge and is flexibly suspended between its apex and peripheral edge. The Figure shows the diaphragm 11 carrying a flanged bobbin 10 and the moving coil 19 and supported by a membrane 15 stretched over frame members 16, 17. The membrane 15 provides one wall of a closed chamber which provides pneumatic damping. The electromagnetic system comprising field coil 24 and polepieces forming the annular gap 9, is provided with a metallic disc 25 to produce eddy currents in order to obtain a flat response characteristic. The membrane which may be a sheet or plurality of cords preferably extends along a portion of the diaphragm surface between it and a flange 14 formed on the bobbin 10.
