Abstract

275,695. Shell-Mex, Ltd., and Lawson, J. April 9, 1926. Filters having sheet filtering-materials.-A. non-return valve is combined with a filter element in such a manner that the two form a detachable unit the frame of the filter element being closed at one end and making a butt joint with the casing at the other. The device is particularly applicable in filters used with kerb-side petrol pumps. A gauze element 4, Fig. 1, is supported by a spider 5 attached at one end to a cone 6 and at the other to a flange 8 which makes joint with a flange 9 on the casing 1. A hinged non-return valve 12 prevents a backward flow of liquid from the outlet 3 to the inlet 2. The element and valve are inserted through an opening closed by a cover plate 14, and are held in place by a nut 7 screwing on a spindle 7<1>. In a modified form, Fig. 3, the gauze 4 is carried at one end on a plate 16 and at the other by a spider 5. The element, which is provided with a non-return valve 17, is held in place by a spring 18 which bears against a cup 19 integral with a spider 20 secured to the spider 5.
