274,939. Pochin, F. H., Pochin, H. S., and Tomblin, T. E. April 22. 1926. Waxing-machines.- In machines for applying molten wax to shoe bottoms, there is employed a roller 1, of yielding material such as felt, of greater length internally than peripherally, a hollow shaft 2, on which the roller is threaded, a shoulder or flange 10 on the shaft, and clamping means 11, 12, between which and the flange the roller is clamped so that its core is compressed, while its peripheral part remains soft and yielding. A preferred form of roller has the shape shown in Fig. 3, and is suitable for waxing the forepart, heel breast and waist of shoes. Hot air, gas, or steam is passed through the shaft 2, and means for supplying wax from a heated wax pot to the roller are provided. Abrading, smoothing, buffing and polishing rollers may also be mounted on the machine. Specifications 13814/10 and 187,742, [Class 42 (ii), Fabrics, Treating otherwise &c.], are referred to. The Provisional Specification describes also a roller made up of felt &c. collars, between which metal, fibre, felt, cork, &c. washers are interposed. The felt collars may be recessed to allow the partial entry of the washers. Means for periodically supplying wax to the roller or rollers, comprising a, rocking feed roll or pads, and rollers comprising rubber instead of felt are also described.
