274,698. Haddan, A. J. H., (Lanning, J. K.). Nov. 22, 1926. Combing-machines.-The comb segment of the comb cylinder is formed with a bed b, Fig. 1, secured to the shell a by screws. The bed is slotted to receive the comb bars c the slots being so cut that the forward edge is nearer the centre of the shell a than the rearward edge. The comb bars are recessed longitudinally and the comb needles are of such a size that when placed in the recess and soldered in position they are flush with the front face of the bar. The bars are secured in position by screws e engaging a sloping shoulder in a notch in the end of the bar, or by a single flanged member engaging all the notches and secured in position by a single screw. The bed plate h, Fig. 5, may be provided with ledges h<2>, h<3> and undercut locking ribs h<1> adapted to engage shaped slots in the comb bars i, which can be successively slipped into position and finally secured by a locking-piece j and screws m. The comb bars are shaped so that they fit flush one against the other and with the part immediately behind the teeth at a higher level than the part of the preceding bar immediately in front of the teeth. The comb bars are individually shaped to fit in their correct position and the slope of teeth to the radius decreases from front to back of the segment.
