Abstract

Radiators, motor-car and like.- A receptacle 2<a>, Fig. 1 mounted below the crank casing 6 or below an existing oil sump of an internal combustion engine has one or more air passages 5 through it for cooling the oil, which may be circulated from and back to the fly-wheel case 7 through pipes 8, 10. The air inlet 5<a> may extend in the direction of travel of the vehicle and the air passage may be large so as to provide only a narrow channel for the oil. The pipe 8 may connect to the side of the fly-wheel case opposite to that shown. In a modified construction shown in Fig. 4, the oil is circulated by a pump, connected to a pipe 16, through openended pipes 14, 15 in the oil chamber arranged alongside the air passage. The flow of cooling- air may be varied by regulating the size or shape of the air inlet or outlet, and for slow-moving vehicles a fan may be employed.
