Mould-opening devices.- Hinged moulds for tyre manufacture are supplied with initial opening means comprising a longitudinally moving spindle contacting with an abutment to force the mould parts asunder, as described in Specification 252,415, and the same means are employed to cause initial closing of the mould. For this purpose the spindle 5 is provided with a pivoted extension 12 having a head 12a located between flanges 14, 15 on the upper mould part, so that movement of the spindle in either direction by means of the hand-wheel 6 and gearing 7, 8 will cause either closing or opening of the mould. The extension 12 may not be pivoted to the spindle 5 but may be wholly detachable, or secured to the upper mould part and detachable from the spindle or be rigid with the spindle and attachable to the upper mould part. It may also be rotatably mounted with respect to the spindle and provided with a head which will normally pass through a slot on a projection of the upper mould but which on rotation will engage the projection to cause closing of the mould.
