Filtering.-Filter tubes 11 arranged in groups are rotatable step by step as a whole about an axis parallel to the tubes, each group in succession registering with a dust receiver 71. and being in this position freed from dust by agita.- tion. The apparatus is contained in a sheetmetal casing into the portion 1 of which air enters tangentially. The air passes downwards and deposits the heavier dust which is removed by a screw conveyer 55;. The lighter air enters the filter tubes, which are closed at the top, and after passing through them escapes through the outlet ring 6, which carries the filter device. The. lower ends of the plates are received in plates 14; their upper ends are closed by discs bolted to arcuate bars spanning consecutive radial elements 19. The frames thus formed are elastically supported from a spider frame, the radii 18b, Fig. 6, of which carry guides 24 :passing through the members 19 and supporting them by springs 23. Each pair of members 19 is spanned by an anvil bar 30 adapted to be struck by a hammer 31. The drum 9 enclosing and carrying the filters is rotated step by step by a shaft 41, bevel gearing, and a shaft 45 actuated by a ratchet wheel 48 and a pawl rocked by a pitman 51 driven through reduction gear from the conveyer shaft. The hammers are actuated through rods 36 engaged by a plunger 70 reciprocated by a toothed cam 65, the reciprocation taking place during the periods of rest. The cam is comtinuously driven by a sleeve 47 surrounding the shaft 45, and is toothed over part only of its circumference. The dust receiver 71 is sealed by spring pressure against the (plates 14. A spring seal is also provided between the ring 6 and the casing 6 and the casing top. The conveyer normally delivers the dust through an outlet closed by a spring pressed disc 90. An emergency dust outlet is provided at the side of the conveyer trough, opened by abnormal dust accumulation against spring pressure.
