Stencil switches.-An electrically driven and controlled advertising apparatus of the kind having two rollers carrying a non-endless image bearing band having a step-by-step movement past a display opening, has the band formed with apertures through which circuit-closing members come into contact to control the movement of the band. For advancing and registering the band in its step-by-step movement, apertures are provided near the edge of the band through which a ball 30 is adapted to be projected by a spring- pressed slide 33 so as to touch a contact 31 and so complete the circuit through an electromagnet 40 which then attracts its armature 41. The movement of the armature releases a pawl on the armature shaft from engagement with a retaining notch on a spring-pressed shaft which by its clutch engaging fork disengages a clutchmember and stops the drive.
