Abstract
271,141. Stonehouse, A., and Stonehouse, G. Feb. 16, 1926. Packeting by wrapping-up.-Relates to machines for wrapping tablets, and of the kind wherein the tablet is partially wrapped in the paper by being forced, with the paper, by a plunger through an aperture, the wrapping being completed by gripping the loose edges of the wrapper and rotating the tablet by means of a rotatable housing. According to the invention, a plurality of radially displaceable, spring-pressed tablet-gripping jaws are mounted on the rotatable housing and are adapted to be forced radially outwards by the introduction of a tablet between them. Waxed paper or other wrapping material is intermittently fed from a roll by feed rollers 7, 8, Fig. 1, the former of which may be thrown out of gear by a hand operated eccentric 64. Knives 16, 17 sever a wrapper from the leading end of the web, which lies beneath a vertical plunger 25. Tablets are contained in a vertical shoot 32, the lowest being allowed to fall by the movement of a two-armed lever, one end of which normally projects into the shoot. A horizontal pusher 35, which may be forked at the forward end 35a to position the tablet, feeds each tablet beneath the plunger 25 and above the wrapper. The plunger descends, a bushing 42 affecting a preliminary enclosure, and leaves the tablet and wrapper within the grip of spring-urged pieces 44 in a rotary holder 43. Gripping jaws 56. Figs. I and V, close in upon the upwardly projecting portions of the wrapper and hold them while the holder 43 rotates to complete the enclosure. The wrapped tablet is delivered from the machine by the pressure exerted by the following one. A corrugated feed plate or carrier may be associated with the shoot 32, to facilitate the handling and insertion of the tablets therein. All the movements are derived from cams on the main shaft 3.
