Abstract

Helical springs; wire and thin plate springs.-Helical upholstery springs are combined with additional springs of the tension type which are stressed simultaneously, the whole forming a complete spring unit. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the main helical spring a is combined with an endless helical spring b which is tensioned by toggle-like wire levers c, d when the spring a is compressed. The upper and lower ends of the levers c, d are connected to ring-shaped distance pieces i preferably of coiled wire. The two levers c, d of each pair may be made in one, a coil being formed where connection is made to the spring b. The ends of such a lever may be extended across the diameter of the ring shaped end pieces i. The whole of the levers c, d may be formed from a single piece of wire as shown in Fig. 7. The toggle levers may be constructed, as shown in Fig. 8, of C-shaped metal strips with an endless spring t.
