Abstract

Return-tube boilers.-In a boiler having return tubes 9 below the furnace flues 7, the total cross sectional area of the return tubes is small compared with that of the furnace flues, and a fan is used to draw the gases through the return tubes at a high velocity. The gases pass downwards through a smoke-box 12 at the front of the boiler into a flue 14 extending along the bottom cf the boiler. Waste hot gases may be led into the smokebox or into the downtake flue 10. The passage of the gases through the return tubes may be controlled by dampers in the downtake flue. An air heater may be fitted in the bottom flue.
