Abstract

269,298. Smith, T. S. March 9, 1926. Funnels.-A funnel for use in filling sumps &c. of motor-car engines with oil, in which the filling orifice of the sump &c. is provided with a central tube for a dipping-stick, and in which it is desirable that the said tube shall not receive any oil during the filling operation, comprises a funnel appliance a having perforated walls, closed at the lower end by a cap a<3> which fits over the dip-stick tube e. A box-like annulus c having an inturned flange c<3> co-operating with an outwardly-turned flange a<2> on the funnel, forms an extension thereto, and is closed by a lid when the part a is reversed therein to be stowed away. A resilient disc is inserted in the box c to form a bottom thereto, and to prevent the funnel portion from rattling when the device is stowed in a bracket on the dashboard of the vehicle under the bonnet thereof.
