Air, controlling circulation of; heating-fittings.-The materials, such as textiles &c., to be dried are conveyed on endless bands or otherwise through a chamber having zones maintained either at the same or different temperatures by independent currents of heated air which are admitted to the zones through concentric ducts. The chamber has drying-compartments 1, 2, 3 and a cooling-compartment 4. Cold air is drawn by a fan 5 through a valvecontrolled opening 20, upwardly through the cooling compartment, and into the perforated collecting-chamber 25, which extends throughout the length of the chamber, and thence through the valved-duct 21 to the fan which forces it, together with fresh air admitted through the valved-inlet 23 of the fan, through the heater 6, which may be of the kind described in Specification 230,612, [Class 64 (iii), Surface apparatus &c.]. From the heater, the air passes into concentric ducts 9, 10, 11 and thence through ducts 12, 13, 14 to the drying-compartments. The air then passes through the perforated floors of the compartments to the collecting-chamber 25 from which it exhausts through ducts 29 into a longitudinal flue 30 having an outlet 31 to the atmosphere. By closing the inlet openings 20, 23 and opening the dampers 27 in the collecting- chamber 25 and the opening 24 to the fan, the air may be continuously circulated. Further, the valves controlling the openings 20, 23 and the exhaust outlet 31 may be opened and closed intermittently.
