Abstract
268,632. Meyer, F. June 4, 1926, [Convention date]. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Lids and covers; opening by cutting or tearing. - A cover and sealing ring for a can or metal container of circular, square, or other shape, are formed by drawing a metal blank to the form shown in Fig. 2, cutting away the marginal part 3 and bending it to form a sealing ring as shown in Fig. 4, and re-flanging the centre to form a cover part as shown at 7, Fig. 6. To assemble the parts the cover part is laid on the mouth of the can with its flange resting on the flange 9 of the can. The sealing ring is then applied as shown in Fig. 6 and the depending part 6 is bent up against the underside of the flange 9 to secure the cover in place. The sealing ring may be furnished with a ripping lug 10, Fig. 8, having a hole 11 preferably oval-shaped, for the insertion of a nail &c. to facilitate opening.
