Aldehyde-amine condensation, products.-Condensation products which may be used as accelerators in the vulcanization of india-rubber are obtained by causing one molecular proportion of an amino-body to react with two or more, it may be twenty, molecular proportions of an aliphatic alpha-#-saturated aldehyde (i.e. an aldehyde with more than two carbon atoms in which the a and # atoms are linked together by a single bond), or with three or more molecular proportions of any other aliphatic aldehyde under conditions whereby water is eliminated. Suitable amines are aniline, n-butylamine, ethylamine, o-tolyldiguanide, ethylaniline, and ethylenediamine, and suitable aldehydes are acetaldehyde, propionaldehyde, n-butyraldehyde, heptaldehyde, crotonaldehyde, citral, acetaldol, and alpha-ethyl-#-propylacrolein. The condensation may be carried out in the presence or absence of inert solvents and under ordinary or increased pressure, and the water formed in the reaction may be removed by heating or by means of dehydrating agents. The products obtained by condensing primary amines with alpha-#-saturated aldehydes give the best results as vulcanization accelerators, their use for this purpose is claimed in Specification 249,113. In examples in which various molecular proportions of aldehyde, up to 15, react with one molecular proportion of amine, the components specified are heptaldehyde and n-butvlamine, n-butyraldehyde and aniline, n-butyraldehyde and o-tolyldiguanide, n-butyraldehyde and n-butylamine, n-propionaldehyde and aniline, and crotonaldehyde and ethylamine, The following condensation products also are referred to, the numbers in brackets giving the molecular proportions of aldehyde to amine : acetaldehyde-aniline (5: 1), nbutyraldehyde-guanidine (5: 1), n-butyraldehydemethylamine (5: 1), n-butyraldehyde-ethylamine (5: 1), n-butyraldehyde-dietbylamine (5: 1), nbutyraldehyde-ethylaniline. (5 : 1), n-butyraldehyde-methylamine (10: 1). n.butyraldehydeethylenediamine (10: 1), n-butyraldehyde-ethyl amine (15: 1), heptaldehyde-o-tolyldiguanide (5: 1), heptaldehyde-ethylamine (5: 1), acetaldolethylamine (5 : 1), acetaldol - n - butylamine (5: 1), acetaldol-o-tolydiguanide (5: 1), crotonaldehyde-aniline (5: 1) and citral-o-tolyliguanide (5 : 1).
