Abstract

263,830. Soc. Ammonia. Jan. 4, 1926, [Convention date]. Scrubbing and washing plant and processes.- Coal gas at high pressure is washed with a large volume of cold water in a scrubber 2 containing screens, rings &c., impurities such as hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide forming unstable hydrates. The water issues from the scrubber through a pipe 7 and is caused to rotate a Pelton wheel or turbine 6 before discharging into a tank 8. Disengaged gas passes to a stack 9. The water is delivered by a pump 10 to a tower 13 in which at a pressure only slightly above atmospheric it is subjected to an air blast whilst flowing over piled-up material. The cleansed water is returned to the scrubber by a pump 4.
