Abstract

263,322. Barbet, E. A. Jan. 30, 1926. Glycerine, distilling.-In treating vinasses to distil off glycerine and obtain a dry residue suitable as a fertilizer, the liquid is concentrated until its boiling point is about 125‹ C., and the heated liquid is subjected to a sudden high vacuum which causes vigorous evaporation, the steam carrying over the glycerine. The liquid is repeatedly heated to successively higher temperatures, and subjected to vacuum treatment between each heating. The liquid concentrated in an apparatus R is passed through a receiver T into a spherical cr cylindrical vessel S, provided with stirring arms and with steam pipes U, U<1>. An oil such as a. heavy petroleum oil is added to prevent frothing. The liquid is heated to 125‹ C., and is then subjected to vacuum, obtained by a pump Q acting through a barometric condenser P. The liquid in the vessel S is alternately reheated at atmosphere pressure and subjected to vacuum. The glycerine. condensed in a cooler S<1>, is discharged through a barometric pipe 19 and a test safe Z together with oil which has vaporized with it. The residue is discharged from the vessel S through a large orifice in its base into cooling and grinding devices.
