Crushers with vibrating jaws. - In a jaw or breakerplate for stonecrushers and the like, cavities are arranged in the body of the plate underneath the initial ridges in such a manner that new ridges are formed when the initial ridges are worn out. As shown, the cavities 3 beneath the teeth or ridges 2 of the original working- surface 1 of the plate are of approximately the same form and cross-sectional area as the spaces between the ridges 2. The cavities 3 are in juxtaposition to the spaces between the ridges 2, and are filled with a soft or brittle metal, such as lead, cast iron, &c., which is removed when the ridges 2 are worn out. The initial ridges 2 hang integrally together with the body of the plate by means of the solid bars 6, the corners of the cavities 3 near the bars 5 being rounded off. In a modification, the thinner portions 6 are omitted and the spaces filled at 7 with the same metal as the cavities 3. When the breaker plate is cast, cores of cast iron &c. may be used for forming the cavities, the cores being left in the cavities until the initial ridges are worn out, when they may be knocked out.
