The present invention arose in order to overcome problems suffered by existing devices.
Summary of the Invention
According to the present invention there is provided a planting device comprising: a hollow main pot with an internal space arranged for receipt of planting material; and a plurality of planter cups, the main pot having one or more sidewall, a base, an open top, and a plurality CO of spaced apart cut-outs adapted for receipt of the planter cups, wherein the planter cups are hung in the cut-outs for use of the planter cup for planting, and wholly displaceable from the main pot to allow the main pot to stack into the main pot of another device.
In some embodiments of the device the device the planter cups comprise a temporary connection means for temporary connection with the main pot. Such connection means may comprise gravity or interference, tolerance or friction fitting in addition or the alternative.
In some embodiments of the device the planter cups comprise an extending front wall forming a cup, and a rear wall forming a part of the connection means. It may be envisaged that the rear wall is perforated so as to allow planting material to be shared with the main pot.
In some such embodiments of the device the rear wall extends radially outward from the front wall, so as to extend behind the sidewall(s) of the main pot and prevent exit of the cup.
In some such embodiments of the device the rear wall curved for contact with a curved inner face of the main pot sidewall(s).
In some embodiments of the device the connection means comprises discontinuous slots proximate the rear wall allowing the slots to be hung into the cut-out, wherein such slots extend in a vertical direction in use.
In some embodiments of the device the connection means comprises stud connectors extending through the planter cups and the sidewall of the main pot. Such connectors may be envisaged to be displaceable and emplaced so as to consolidate the connection.
In some embodiments of the device the main pot is substantially cylindrical with an open mouth and cut-outs spaced about the sidewall.
In some embodiments of the device the main pot is trough shaped with a rectangular open top with cut-outs spaced around the sides.
In further embodiments the device, or pot in particular, comprises a thermal mass, which may be used to store heat for the planting material, so as to limit frost damage for example.
CO In further embodiments the device, or pot in particular, comprises a water reservoir which may be used with or in place of piping for providing dispersal of water about the planting material or internal space.
In other embodiments the device comprises a cloche or cover, to prevent damage to the contents of the pot in use.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the Figures in which:

Detailed Description of Figures
CO
With reference to the figures there is shown embodiments 199,299 of a planting device generally comprising: a hollow main pot 100,200 with an internal space arranged for receipt of planting material; and a plurality of planter cups 99, the main pot having one or more sidewall, a base 4,26, an open top, and a plurality of spaced apart cut-outs 1 adapted for receipt of the planter cups 99, wherein the planter cups are hung in the cut-outs for use of the planter cup for planting, and wholly displaceable from the main pot to allow the main pot to stack into the main pot of another device.
In particular reference to the embodiment 199 of the device shown in Figure 1 the embodiment comprises a substantially cylindrical form pot 100, with an open mouth. The top edge of the sidewall around the mouth includes a rolled edge 8 for rigidity.
The continuous sidewall of the pot is tapered inwards from the open mouth to the circular base 4.
The circular base has a central circular indented section with a central hole 3 for drainage of the pot.
Around this central indented section is an annular edge 5 with six holes 3 for drainage equally spaced around the central indented section.
The annular outer edge further includes six feet 6, which are provided by downwards extending segments of the outer circumference of the base.
The central indented section and the feet enable the embodiment to stand on a variety of different types of underlying and uneven surfaces, The sidewall of the embodiment is perforated with ten cut-outs 1, which are arranged in two rows of five, spaced about the sidewall equally.
The cut-outs have an arcuate lower edge joining straight side edges and a flat top edge with right-angled corners with the side edges.
The connection means comprises a small circular hole 12 in the sidewall below the lowest point of the arcuate lower edge.
CO
The planter cups 99 comprise a rear wall 10 mirroring the shape of the cut-out, but extending o away wider than the cut-out 1 itself.
The planter cups further include a front wall 9 that is substantially the same shape as the cut-out but which bows out to form half of an open topped cup.
The front wall comprises a plurality of vertically spaced ribs, which may be envisaged to better hold planting material.
The rear wall 10 is curved so as to sit inside the pot and follow the curvature of the inner face of the pot sidewall.
The front wall 9 has two vertical slots 92 located proximate the rear wall 10, in the top edge of the front wall. These slots 92 extend vertically downwards.
It may be envisaged in use that the planter cups are inserted into the inner of the pot, for example when empty, and subsequently slid upwards to allow the pot sidewall to enter the slots, and then the front wall extends through the cut-out and the rear wall is fit behind the perimeter of the cut-out.
In order to complete the connection means a small stud 2 is pushed through the outer sidewall, and a hole 11 in the rear wall 10 of the planter cup 99. The stud is resiliently deformable such that once pushed through the stud is held in place by a lip on the inner of the embodiment.
In particular reference to the embodiment shown in Figures 5a and 5b, the embodiment comprises a rectangular footprint trough pot 200 with an open top.
There are four cut-outs 1 spaced in a row arranged on each long sidewalls of the trough pot. There is one cut-out on each end sidewall of the trough pot.
The base 26 of the pot is flat, with perimetrically spaced feet 16 extending downwards.
The sidewalls incline away from the base so that the top is larger than the base. The top edge of the sidewalls includes a rolled edge 18 and the corners 19 between sidewalls are CO radiused for rigidity.
The pot in both embodiments is formed in a relatively rigid inelastic material such as polyethylene or acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS).
The planter cups are also formed in a similar plastics or polymer, but are a lighter weight of material, so as to form an inelastic but flexible form, enabling easier placement into and displacement from the cut-outs.
In order to store or transport the embodiments of the device, the planter cups are removed from the pots and the pots may thereafter be staked as known in the art, with the planter cups stored or transported separately The invention has been described by way of examples only and it will be appreciated that variation may be made to the above-mentioned embodiments without departing from the scope of protection as defined by the claims.
