The following description is, therefore, not to be taken in a limiting sense.
[0024] Fig. 1 shows a schematic block diagram according to an embodiment of the communication system 10. The communication system 10 may provide an information 12 for a first motor vehicle 14. A request 16 may be made about the information 12 to an electronic computing device 18 of the communication system 10 outside of the first motor vehicle 14. The request 16 may be transmitted to at least a second motor vehicle 20 by the electronic computing device 18. The information 12 may be generated by the second motor vehicle 20. The generated information 12 may be transmitted from the second motor vehicle 20 to the electronic computing device 18. The information 12 may be provided for the first motor vehicle 14 by the electronic computing device 18. In some embodiments, the electronic computing device 18 may include a vehicle back-end system such as a server. The electronic computing device 18 may establish a peer-to-peer communication and information exchange between the first motor vehicle 14 and the second motor vehicle 20. For example, the first vehicle 14 may communicate charging, navigation and driving data with the second vehicle 20. In certain embodiments, the charging, navigation and driving data may be produced by a single entity such as a vehicle manufacturer.
[0025] In particular, Fig. 1 shows that also a third motor vehicle 22 may be configured for generating the information 12 and/or for receiving the request 16 of the first motor vehicle 14.
[0026] In particular, the information 12 may be generated by using sensors 24 of the second motor vehicle 20.
[0027] Fig. 1 shows further that the first motor vehicle 14 may include a communication device 26, a central computing device 28, as well as a human machine interface 30.
[0028] The sensors 24 of the second motor vehicle 20 may be, for example, a camera, a radar sensor, an ultrasonic sensor, or a lidar sensor.
[0029] In particular, a peer-to-peer communication may be performed by the central electronic computing device 18, which may be, for example, configured as a backend system, using a communication unit inside the motor vehicles 14, 20, 22 to know the information 12 related to shared services such as weather conditions, traffic and charging stations reservations. For example, the backend system may be a server for a particular set of motor vehicles 14, 20, 22. For charging station reservation service charging times, charging station availability, waiting times, and alternative charging station options along the route for the first motor vehicle 14 may be required. This information 12 may be acquired by the backend from publicly available information and from the vehicle on-board sensors of the second motor vehicle 20. In another embodiment, the information 12 may be acquired from non-publicly available information which may not depend on any external stakeholders such as charge station operators. Peer-to-peer communication may allow the motor vehicle 14, 20, 22 to benefit from sharing the information 12 and request other motor vehicles 14, 20, 22 to assist with a service such as reserving a charging station.
[0030] The solution may require an on-board computer and a software application running on it such as an on-board user-interface. In some embodiments, the on-board computer may compile all the required information 12 for the respective shared services such as charging, navigation and the driving data and send it to the backend. For example, the on-board computer may include the central computing device 28 and/or the sensors 24 that may collect weather information, traffic information, and charging station information 12 around a particular motor vehicle. In alternative embodiments, the collected data may include a location detail, the charging information of the particular motor vehicle, the health information of the particular motor vehicle, the charging station availability, and/or other information. The backend may aggregate all the relevant information 12 from the second motor vehicle 20 along the route and sends messages to the other motor vehicles 14, 20, 22 along the route which matches or subscribes to these shared services.
[0031] In case of charging station reservation shared services, for example, the second motor vehicle 20 agrees to help the first motor vehicle 14, then the second motor vehicle 20 may look for charging station availability and the demand at that location using the sensors 24 and may provide that information 12 to the electronic computing device 18. The electronic computing device 18 may gather similar information 12 from, for example, the third motor vehicle 22 along the route and may provide the first motor vehicle 14 with charging station options where the user has a very high probability of getting a charging station without having to wait.
[0032] The electronic computing device 18 may, for example, correlate or map relevant information 12 obtained from each individual motor vehicle 14, 20, 22 to complete the requested service. Furthermore, the electronic computing device 18 may make a decision for the vehicle requesting data and transmit it back to the first motor vehicle 14.
[0033] Fig. 2 shows another schematic block diagram according an embodiment of the communication system 10. Fig. 2 shows that, for example, a user may use the human machine interface 30 for requesting the information 12. For example, the user may request a charging station reservation, the traffic along the route, or an on-board resourcing sharing, for example, an on-board camera, a radar or other on-board resources. Based on the user profile and respective shared services, the central computing device 28 may assign a priority for charging and a corresponding reward for each request. The electronic computing device 18 may receive the shared service request and transmit the request 16 to all the other motor vehicles 20, 22. When another motor vehicle 20, 22 accepts the request 16 based on the reward, the electronic computing device 18 may pair up both the parties to complete the request.
[0034] According to the example for charging, the electronic computing device may receive the request 16 for a charging station reservation. The electronic computing device 18 may transmit the request 16 to all the other motor vehicles 20, 22 based on a current or a future geographical location. When another motor vehicle 20, 22 accepts the request based on the reward, the electronic computing device 18 may pair up both the parties to complete the request. In case the requests 16 can not be fulfilled by the accepted party, then identifying alternatives may be performed by the electronic computing device 18.
[0035] The vehicle functions receiver 32 may implement functions such as verifying if the request may be accepted, accepting the request based on the reward, allowing onboard resources to fulfill the request for activating sensors, and/or communicating with the electronic computing device 18 or central computing device 28. For example, the second motor vehicle 20 or the third motor vehicle 22, according to this described embodiment may verify if the request 16 can be accepted. In a second step, the request 16 may be accepted based on the reward. On-board resources may be allowed to fulfill the requests 16, for example, such as activating a camera or a radar to identify if any vehicles are waiting or furthermore. This information 12 may be actively communicated back to the electronic computing device 18. In particular, these steps are presented in a block 32, which may be regarded as the vehicle functions receiver.
