Abstract
262,225. Newton, F. Oct. 14, 1925. Motors, controlling; armatures, short - circuited screens on cores of. -In order to maintain constant the speed of a continuous - current motor, a contactoperating device is provided, which, when the speed falls, automatically closes an exciting circuit on the armature in which a wattless current is generated by the rotation of the machine. The auxiliary winding may be single-phase or polyphase and is located in the main winding slots or in tunnels 3 a short distance radially within the armature 2. The circuit-closing device may comprise a loaded spring 4 co-operating with a fixed contact 5 on the shaft, and a condenser 6, consisting of tin foil and flexible insulation wrapped around the shaft, may be connected across the contacts. A number of windings at different radii adapted to be successively shortcircuited may be provided on the armature.
