Description

Suction and Viewing Device The present invention relates to a suction and viewing device comprising a mirror and a mirror holder. In one embodiment, the invention relates to a dental suction device.
Dental mirrors have been used by dentists for many years to assist in viewing the inside of a patient's mouth during a dental procedure. Dental mirrors are typically small in shape to allow them to be placed inside the patient's mouth.
One of the problems associated with dental mirrors is that condensation can build up on the mirror due to the moisture within a patient's mouth. In this case, it can be difficult for a dental professional to have a clear view of the patient's mouth during a dental procedure. In addition, the view of the patient's mouth observed using the mirror may become obstructed due to the moisture and aerosol that builds up in their mouth during a dental procedure.
Aspirators have been used in dentistry over the years and are provided as separate instruments such that it can be difficult for a dental professional to handle both a dental mirror and an aspirator at the same time, especially in cases where the dental professional also needs to use a third instrument during a procedure.
The present application seeks to address the above problems.
According to a first aspect, there is provided a suction and viewing device comprising a mirror and a mirror holder, wherein the mirror holder comprises a plurality of recesses 25 positioned and configured to assist in the removal of liquid, moisture and/ or aerosol from a patient's mouth during a dental procedure when the device is attached to a vacuum source.
Advantageously, the device of the present invention is a multifunctional suction and viewing tool which allows for the suction and vision of the patient's mouth in one step.
Advantageously, the device of the present invention allows a dental professional to hold the device with one hand, freeing up the other hand for other equipment and/ or tools that are required during the procedure. Thus, the present invention allows for the one handed removal of water and/ or saliva from a patient's mouth during a dental procedure in addition to the aerosol that may be produced during the procedure while, at the same time, allowing for improved visibility for the dental professional during the procedure. Preferably, the device of the present invention comprises an aerosol reducing design.
Preferably, the mirror holder comprises a front face and a back face. Preferably, a mirror 5 surface is provided on both the front face and the back face of the mirror holder. Preferably, both the front and back faces of the mirror holder are substantially adjacent to a reflective side of the mirror. In one embodiment, the minor is a double sided mirror. Advantageously, the provision of a mirror on the front and back faces of the minor holder increases the reflection of light and thus allows the dental professional to have a clearer view of the 10 patient's mouth during a dental procedure.
In a preferred embodiment, the mirror holder comprises at least two recesses. In one embodiment, the mirror holder may comprise three recesses. In another embodiment, the mirror holder may comprise four recesses.
Preferably, the mirror holder comprises a proximal end and a distal end. Preferably, the min-or is provided at the distal end of the mirror holder.
