Abstract

261,622. Dehn, F. B., (Nagel-Chase Mfg. Co.). May 20, 1926. Vaporizing - apparatus. -The generating tube 24 of a vapour burner is fitted with a flue 40, Figs. 2 and 3, consisting of a piece of sheet metal preferably copper or copper alloy, having its ends 43 bent around and brazed to the tube and its middle portion cut and bent so as to form inner and outer straps 41, 42. The space between the ends 43 may be filled in with silver solder 44. By applying a small flame such as that of a match to the straps and the adjacent surface of the tube sufficient heat is communicated to the tube to initiate vaporization of the fuel and the burners can be ignited. Fig. 1 shows the invention applied to an incandescent vapour burner comprising a font 10 for fuel under pressure, a fuel tube 12 extending upwardly from the front 10 and surrounded by a handle 13, aT-fitting 15 containing a needle valve 17 for controlling the fuel supply, the vapour generating tube 24 fitted with the flue 40, a mixing chamber 30 carried by a depending air supply pipe 31 secured to a base plate 32 extending laterally from the fitting 15, and a manifold 34 connected to the mixing chamber by a pipe 33 and carrying depending tubes 35 supporting incandescent mantles 36. A disc 27, Fig. 5, having a fine aperture 28 is fitted in the conical lower end 23 of the tube 24 so that the fuel enters the tube 24 in spray form and at such a rate as not to cool the burner before the lamp is fully operating.
