Abstract

A portable kiosk unit comprises a housing, a base with at least one lifting plate 8, and securement means for attachment to a frame of a vehicle such as a golf buggy. The unit is both mountable on and demountable from the frame. The method of mounting the unit involves elevating the unit to enable the vehicle frame to be placed underneath, and subsequently lowering the unit onto the frame so it can be secured. The kiosk may be raised from the ground using an adjustable jack placed under the lifting plates, or alternatively the unit may contain handles to facilitate manual lifting. The base may have telescopic legs that can be raised to enable elevation. The unit may be powered by a battery contained within the housing or by a connection 12 to the vehicle battery.

Description

A PORTABLE KIOSK AND A METHOD OF MOUNTING THE KIOSK ON A VEHICLE
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates a portable kiosk for offering food and/or drink and a method of mounting and demounting the kiosk on and from a vehicle, for example a golf buggy.
BACKGROUND TO THE INVENTION
Portable food kiosks have been around for years. They are generally built within, or secured to, the frame of a vehicle that can be driven to a desired location.
The applicant has developed a portable kiosk designed and constructed for use, for example, on a golf buggy to allow refreshments to be provided at various places on a golf course.
One such issue with known portable kiosk structures is that the vehicle which provides the portability is usually made bespoke.
The present invention provides an improvement to known portable kiosks concepts by providing a kiosk unit or units that can be easily mounted on or demountable from an existing golf buggy.
STATEMENTS OF INVENTION
In a first aspect there is provided a portable kiosk apparatus, including a kiosk unit for securement to a vehicle frame, the unit having a base with at least one lifting plate, the apparatus be constructed so as to be able to be elevated to allow a vehicle frame to be placed underneath and to then be subsequently lowered on to the frame, the apparatus further having securement means to secure the unit to the vehicle frame once lowered onto it.
In a second aspect there is provided, a method of securing a portable kiosk apparatus on to a vehicle frame, the method comprising the steps of: raising a unit of the apparatus, locating the vehicle frame underneath the unit, lowering the unit onto the vehicle frame, and securing the unit to the vehicle frame.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The invention will now be described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a front view of a kiosk apparatus constructed in accordance with the invention with the front flap closed; Figure 2 is a front view of a kiosk apparatus constructed in accordance with the invention without the front flap; Figure 3 is a rear view of the kiosk apparatus; Figure 4 is a rear view of the kiosk apparatus with the rear panel removed; Figure 5 is a typical adjustable jack suitable for use with the apparatus to raise or lower the unit; Figure 6 is a plan view of a framework to receive the apparatus; Figure 7 is a schematic diagram showing the principle of the connection of the frame to a golf trolley frame; and Figure 8 shows the kiosk apparatus on a golf buggy. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION A kiosk apparatus to store, in use, food and drink for serving and a desired location on, for example, a golf course.
The apparatus include a unit having upper and lower compartments 2, 4.
Prior to it being mounted on a golf buggy or utility vehicle 6, each corner of the base of the lower compartment 4 includes L-shaped lifting plates 8 (see figure 3).
In order to mount the apparatus onto the frame of a golf buggy 6, the apparatus is first raised above the ground using adjustable jacks 10, such as for example that shown in figure 5 which are placed under each lifting plate Sand then raised. The jacks 10 may be, for example, 48" heavy duty farm jacks.
Alternatively, the apparatus may be manually lifted and lowered for mounting and demounfing. In such a case the materials of the apparatus are selected to cause the apparatus to be as lightweight as practicable.
The electrics are connectable to the golf buggy battery using an Anderson connector 12 for quick connection and release.
In an alternative embodiment, the apparatus may include its own lithium battery located within the housing to provide power to the unit without the need to connect the apparatus to the golf buggy battery. The battery may be a stand alone or onboard battery bank contained within the apparatus housing.
In an alternative embodiment the each corner of the unit has a telescopic leg than can be raised to lift the apparatus off the ground.
Raising the apparatus allows for an existing golf buggy to drive into the apparatus to position the back of the golf buggy frame 14 underneath the unit. The apparatus is then lowered onto the golf buggy frame 14 and is secured to the frame in each corner by fixing plates 16, replacing the lifting plates 8. Alternatively the apparatus may be simply bolted to the golf buggy frame 14.
Similarly, when it is no longer required, the fixing plates 16 may be removed and replaced with lifting plates 8 under which the jack 10 can placed, to lift the unit from the golf buggy frame 14 thereby allowing the golf buggy 6 to drive out from the apparatus ready for its normal use.
In an alternative embodiment, shown in figure 6, the apparatus includes an aluminium frame 18 that includes welded handles 20 at each corner. The handles 20 provide grips for manual lifting of the frame and/or can be used as locaters for the jacks 10.
The frame 18 is raised up and secured to the golf buggy frame 14 via a pre-drilled plate 22. The apparatus then sits on the frame 18 and is secured to the vehicle.
