Abstract
261,246. Sloan, J. May 23, 1926. Shoring.-Shores or packs for mine and like underground workings consist of wire or like structures or cases surrounding waste rock or other material which takes the pressure of the wall or roof of the working. Posts 1 - - 4 are arranged in position and one or more widths of wire netting, comprising longitudinal wires 5, transverse wires 6, and thinner wires 7, are secured by wires 12 to the inner faces of the posts. The overlapping edges 9 of the netting are connected by the ends of cross-ties 10, and cross-ties 11 are provided between the upper edges of the structure. The selvages of the netting sheets have two or more wires 8 provided for strengthening purposes. An additional support for the rock may be provided, consisiing, as shown in Fig 3, of wire netting 13 extending along the floor, against one side 14 of the main structure, and beneath the hanging wall or roof. The! wire netting 13 is secured to additional posts 16, 17, and may extend down another side of the main structure and overlap the portion on the floor. Alternatively the wire structure may be formed of wire arranged spirally or in rings on the outside or inside of the posts. Spacing wires and diagonal wires may be twisted in such a structure. Expanded metal may be used in place of wire netting. The waste rock or other filling is placed in position after the corresponding width of netting has been erected, and when the wire structure is full, and the rock &c. takes the pressure of the wall or roof being supported, the posts and netting may be removed. The posts 1 - - 4 may be dispensed with.
