Pessaries; suppositories.- A pessary consists of a ring 3 of gelatine or other soluble substance, the opening through the ring being closed by a cup-shaped membrane 2 which may be soluble or insoluble. Alternatively, the pessary may be made of a substance which melts under the action of warmth and if the membrane 2 is insoluble it may be partly or wholly lined with a soluble substance. Medicinal or chemical substances may be incorporated in the pessary.
