Abstract

A device for holding a door in an open position and for controlling movement of the door to a closed position, including a linkage mechanism 16 18 rotatably mounted to a housing 10 at a rotatable axle 24, holding mechanism 11 for holding the device in its first operative condition; and a sensor 50 for sensing whether an external alarm is activated, wherein the sensor is powered by a power source and a switch arrangement causes the power from the power source to the sensor to be altered, wherein, when the device is closed, the sensor either does not sense for an external alarm or the device does not to act on such an alarm if one is sensed by the sensor, and wherein, when the device is open, if the sensor senses an external alarm the holding mechanism releases or permits the device to adopt its closed position or moves the door to its closed position. The switch arrangement comprises a switch 12’ and a switch actuation member 14’, one of which is mounted on the rotatable axle 24 and the other on the housing 10 such that rotation of the axle causes rotation of the actuation member and actuation of the switch.
